Han Solo started his life as an orphan, being expected to become a pirate, but he personally wanted to join the Galactic Empire and become an ace pilot in its naval force. Eventually, he did end up becoming an Imperial pilot, being recognized as one of the best rookie pilots from his academy. Despite making his childhood dream come true, Solo later defected from the Imperial Navy after he discovered that the Empire was enslaving innocent Wookiees, allowing him to free one of the Wookiees, named Chewbacca. Together, Han and Chewbacca managed to find work as smugglers for the main Hutt Cartel before being assigned to personally work for the Cartel's leader, Jabba Desilijic Tiure.
While working for Jabba, Solo wound up getting his ship, the Millenium Falcon, boarded by Imperial forces, who decided to confiscate all of the cargo that Jabba entrusted to him. As a result, Jabba placed a bounty on Solo, which would prompt Solo to begin working independently from Jabba and the Hutt Cartel. It would be during this time that Solo and Chewbacca would be hired to secretly transport the stolen Imperial Death Star plans, the exiled Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi, and his apprentice Luke Skywalker. While preparing the Millenium Falcon for taking off, a team of Imperial Stormtroopers found them and attempted to stop them from leaving Tatooine.
As Solo fought them off, a recently enlisted Clone Stormtrooper named Danson, who was running from a clan of Jawas, accidentally ran across the stormtroopers, stopping them from firing on Solo long enough for him to escape with the rebels. With the indirect help of Danson, Solo was able to transport Kenobi, Skywalker, R2-D2, C-3PO, and the stolen Death Star plans off-world, setting up events that would lead to Solo joining the Alliance to Restore the Republic, become a General in its military, and marrying rebel leader, Leia Organa.
